Is Prague Easy to Navigate with Luggage?

Prague is compact and very walkable, but not always luggage-friendly. Cobblestones, stairs, narrow pavements and busy trams can make moving around with suitcases challenging. With the right routes and transport choices, it becomes much easier.

1. Using the metro with luggage

Prague’s metro system is fast and reliable, but not all stations are equally good for travelers with bags. Some stations have elevators, some only escalators, and a few have long staircases.

During peak hours (7:30–9:00 & 16:30–18:00), avoid large bags on Metro A through Old Town.

2. Trams: beautiful but not always luggage-friendly

Trams are iconic and scenic, but many have stairs and limited space near the doors.

3. Buses: best for airport connections

Bus 119 from the airport to Nádraží Veleslavín is cheap, fast and has space for luggage. Airport Express goes directly to Main Station.

4. Walking with luggage

Sidewalks can be uneven. If you have:

A tram or metro ride is better even for short distances.

5. Taxis & ride-hailing

7. What travelers often do on their last day

A typical pattern:

  1. Store luggage at hotel or storage shop.
  2. Visit only one district.
  3. Head to airport in late afternoon.

Some prefer to send luggage ahead to the airport to stay free, but that depends on timing.
